Mechanical wing of workshop is the major contributor to POH activities in the workshop. Having a rich product mix with quality output, in form of POH of AC/NAC Icf coaches, BEML coaches, Gareeb Rath, Shatabdi, Pantry cars the calibre of the
wing is self defining. With recent inception of DEMU TC POH and IOH of LHB FIAT Bogies, a new feather has been added in its cap.
The complete POH involves number of shops e.g. Air Brake, Body Repair, Black Smith, Lifting, Machine, Mill Wright, RSP, Paint, Plumbing, Trough Floor, Trimming, Welding, Wheel, Roller Bearing. These shops relentlessly plan and execute their
respective jobs in tandem to deliver the quality with operational safety. The quality is assured by inspection wing of the workshop and at next level, by IOR and NTXR.

Mechanical wing?s unmatched contribution is provision of bio toilets in each POHed coach during its POH. Having almost 08 variants in design, and practical installation difficulties, this task is herculean.

Being subservient of factory act, we try utmost to ensure safe operations while in under crane area, height working, cutting, welding, working near furnaces of in lab. All workers are provided cutting edge PPEs of renowned makes like 3M and they are promoted to use these PPEs.

The legendry millwright shop take cares of all machines and plants through in house periodic maintenance and some outsourced comprehensive AMCs. All out effort is done to minimize downtime of machines, cranes compressors, material handling equipments like lister forklifts, hydraulic jacks etc.

Self realization of weak areas and their correction is continual process at Alambagh
workshop. Monthly case to case analysis of failures within 100 days of POH in
meeting is symbol of thirst for quality. Corrosion repair section plays piotal role in the outturn of the workshop. On an
average 40% coaches have carrion during incoming inspection and they are repaired during POH. This section has fully shifted to co2 welding except overhead welding. Quality of corrosion shop has been outstanding in the sense, no cases of corrosion repair appeared in 100 days failure in last 02 years.

Lifting bogie shops deal with POH of bogies whereby bogies are de-wheeled, stripped, sand blasted & activity of components changing of must change items takes place. The outturn of Lifting shop varies from 8-10 coach set POH bogies/day amounting to total of 215-230 coach set POH + IOH per month.
Furthermore, Wheel & Roller Bearing shop provide overhauled Wheels to Lifting. Main activities has involved are wheel turning, wheel pressing, axle turning, disc boring & journal bushing. Four CNC machines & new CNC are available for above operations. Subsequent activity involves transportation of wheel set to roller bearing where bearing & axle box fitment takes place.

The shop insures usage of various gauges to ensure quality. Three point digital gauge for disc dia, measurement, surface finish tester for journal surface finish, wheel gauge are available in wheel shop & computerised an gauging, zyglo
inspection for bearing takes place in Roller Bearing shop.
